COURSE

The race will be run on a USATF certified 8K course in Frederick, MD. The approved course map is shown here.  

 

Starting line: AOPA National Aviation Community Center - 296 Bucheimer Road Frederick, MD 21701

 

 

 

 

 

Parking:

Purple: Start/Finish/Race Expo/After Party

Red: Available Parking (Grassy lot on corner of Hughes Ford Rd/Bucheimer, Parking lot on both sides of Rehab2Perform on Hughes Ford Rd and the AOPA Headquarters parking lots at the end of Aviation Way)

POST-RACE CELEBRATION

After you cross the finish line, come celebrate at the after party and listen to some live music brought to you by the Frederick Let There Be Rock School. Grab a complimentary Flying Dog beer or one of the many other post-race refreshments, visit the sponsor/vendor booths and settle in for the awards ceremony. Don't forget to stop by the random prize table to see if your bib number was selected as a winner while you were out on the course.  

NOTE: You MUST bring photo ID in order to be served beer. No exceptions.

              

 TEAM INFORMATION

  1. Minimum team size is three

  2. Team types are Open Coed and Masters Coed (all members must be 40 or older)

  3. Top Team in each category will be awarded for the top 3 team members.

  4. Team type will be determined by registered team composition (if anyone under 40 joins the team, the team will be scored in the Open competition)

  5. First team member to register creates the team name, and other team members specify the team name during registration

  6. Team score will be the sum of the net times of the three fastest team members with at least one man and and at least one woman. If a team has fewer than three scoring finishers, the team will be disqualified.

  7. Teams must register online.  NO team registrations at packet pickup or on race day.

 

POLICIES

No Bib transfers and No Refunds (See here for FSRC Policy)

 

Weather Policy - We love the summer season, but occasionally the weather can be uncooperative.  At the discretion of the Race Director and Frederick City officials, the race may be postponed, changed to an untimed Fun Run, or cancelled. Sorry, no refunds.

Runners reaching the intersection of  Monroe Avenue and Monocacy Blvd   (~4.0 miles) more than 60 minutes into the race will be directed to remain on the sidewalk to complete the course.  Any runner finishing more than 75 minutes after race start may not receive an official time. 

For your safety and the safety of those around you, headphones are discouraged and dogs, bicycles, skates and strollers are not allowed.  Note: this rules is waived for strollers associated with the Athletes Serving Athletes program.

REGISTRATION

Online registration is preferred, and we pay the fees!  No registration at packet pickup or on race night.  The 2018 race is at capacity.

Net proceeds from the Frederick Summer Solstice 8k benefit the Frederick chapter of Blessings in a Backpack.

Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for children in Frederick County who might otherwise go hungry when school meals are unavailable.

Every school-aged child in America has the nourishment needed to learn and grow. As a leader in the movement to end childhood hunger, Blessings strives to ensure children don't go hungry on the weekends by empowering individuals and communities to take action.

The Frederick Steeplechasers gave $14,563 to BIAB in 2017 and $33,991 total since 2016. Thank you to our sponsors, volunteers and runners for their support in making our inaugural race such a wonderful success. Our contribution was directed by Blessings in A Backpack to the program feeding children at Waverly Elementary School.
